The Team
A crew that crossed the Zanzibar chanel – to raise money for children with cancer
On Saturday 6 June 2026, a team from Dar es Salaam Yacht Club completed a 40 kilometre open-water kayak challenge from Dar es Salaam to Pungume Island in the Zanzibar Archipelago.
The team left the Yacht Club at 5:45am, paddling through bioluminescence in the bay before heading out across open water. Every kayaker made it safely to the final destination.
After the crossing, the team celebrated with a lobster, prawns and fish BBQ before sailing back to Dar es Salaam, accompanied by dolphins on the return journey.

The funds raised through Paddle ZNZ support treatment, transport, nutrition, accommodation, diagnostics and family support through Tumaini La Maisha.

Every shilling reaches a child
Paddle ZNZ has now raised over 10 million TZS for Tumaini La Maisha. Donations still support children with cancer and their families through treatment, transport, nutrition, accommodation, diagnostics and care.
