We are a group of medical students from RCSI who had the privilege of volunteering in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, during the summer of last year. During our month-long stay, we worked closely with the incredible team at Tumaini La Maisha (TLM), a Tanzanian charity founded by Irish Paediatrician Dr. Trish Scanlan (UCD alumna), which is dedicated to providing lifesaving cancer care to children across the country.
Our experience was both humbling and inspiring—we witnessed firsthand the dedication, resilience, and compassion that fuels this mission. We had the honour of assisting with clinical care, observing procedures, and supporting children and families through their cancer journeys.
TLM provides comprehensive cancer care free of charge to children who would otherwise have no access to treatment. To put it into perspective:
- X-ray: €8
- CT scan: €70
- Immunohistochemistry (for accurate cancer diagnosis): €24
- Flow Cytometry (for advanced diagnostic testing): €154
These small amounts go a long way in helping a child receive a diagnosis and begin treatment.
By supporting our fundraiser, you’re not just donating—you’re becoming part of a growing global community committed to ensuring no child in Tanzania faces cancer alone.
Please consider contributing and sharing our campaign. Every euro makes a difference. Thank you 💛
Together we can!
