Love, Hope and Strength: Medics & Survivors Eliakim & Gustav for the Big Night In!

When the Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHS) asked us to take part in their Big Night In virtual celebration for World Cancer Day, we knew exactly who to call upon for help!!!

Ten years ago, LHS supported our move from the Ocean Road Cancer Institute to Muhimbili National Hospital and its’ associated range of medical services and supplies, revolutionising childhood cancer care in Tanzania. In this powerful conversation filmed for the LHS Big Night In: Survivors Gustav and Eliakim recount their experiences as childhood cancer patients themselves in both ORCI and MNH at the very beginning. They discuss the wards they new with the wards Gustav currently works on as a phlebotomist and Eliakim studies and will soon join as an intern.

The Big Night In was broadcast in partnership with the Union of International Cancer Control and can be viewed in full here. The video included rare and previously unseen footage of Jules and Mike Peters’ trips to Dar es Salaam including the opening of our Upendo, Tumaini and Ujasiri children’s cancer centre in Muhimbili National Hospital back in 2011.

Thank you so much once again to our friends Mike, Jules, Kirsty and everyone at the Love Hope Strength Foundation for this wonderful and inspirational event and their ongoing support and partnership. You Are TLM!
