UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin (Ireland) together with Tumaini La Maisha and Their Lives Matter was recognized and nominated for the best Business School Partnership 2022 category and won the bronze award. The award recognizes organizations that have adopted a proactive, innovative approach to strategic collaboration and a partnership that has included another business school/ group of schools, an employer, a consultant, education partner or technology provider, a social impact group, an individual, a charity or another organization.

TLM has developed 2 key medical technological innovations which have the potential to transform the care of children with cancer in resource limited settings. The innovations are a medically secure centralised data collection tool for national networks ‘CleverCharts’ and a web-based highly automated chemotherapy prescribing platform ‘CleverChemo’. https://www.wearetlm.org/safechemohacpp

However, TLM lacked the business expertise and acumen to create the necessary frame work to bring these tools from proof-of-concept designs and us at a single site to a developed social enterprise business model.

In total, thirty students and 4 faculty volunteered their time to work for several months in research areas that enabled TLM to become more established in the African market and to roll out innovations based on their social enterprise model.

The framework focused on four areas:

1) Market Access & Distribution Channels,

2) Sales & Marketing Strategy,

3) Budget Analysis, Financial Projections & Success Measurement, and

4) Recommendations for Impact, Transformation & Sustainability.

Thanks to this wonderful partnership the medical innovations are expected to bring an important positive socioeconomic and demographic impact in the area of childhood cancer through reduced mortality and toxicity rates and improved efficiency and quality of healthcare across Tanzania and beyond to many other countries in need.
